About the Author

Michael Jeffs was born, and has lived most of his life, in Royal Leamington Spa. He is married with two grown-up daughters.

He is now retired from a career spent entirely and happily with Warwickshire County Council. During that time he was fortunate to be able to travel frequently throughout the county.

Since retiring Michael has been occupied with voluntary work for Age Concern, for Patients' Forums, as a School Governor and various roles with the Warwickshire Branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE).

Michael's contribution to the CPRE began by designing and servicing the website at www.cprewarwickshire.org.uk
and gradually extended to becoming a planning volunteer covering the area of the Warwick District Council, a trustee of the charity and currently the honour of being vice-chairman of the Warwickshire Branch.

Michael soon developed a keen interest in how the countryside and landscapes of Warwickshire were changing as farming practices evolved, development spread inexorably into the green fields, planning policies were refined and concern grew about sustainability and climate change.

He then became interested in what had happened to the county in the preceding centuries and millennia. Research became more organised and soon nearly 4,000 file notes had been made. At some time in 2008 the idea of writing this book germinated.

The text was written and rewritten six or seven times and the search began for a publisher, without success. It was decided to self-publish. The design of the book, photographs, maps and cover were developed. A printer was found.

And here is the result - Warwickshire Landscapes, The Story So Far
